Across Texas, City RV campers can find state parks with lakes, such as Lake Austin, Lake Lewisville, Lake Cypress Springs and Lake Tyler, where they can go fishing, swimming or boating. Texas also offers places to go kayaking, rock climbing, golfing, horseback riding, parasailing, skydiving, hiking, tubing or surfing. Some of the top campgrounds in Texas sit on or near the state’s lakes or rivers and offer recreational activities, including outdoor sports, for children and adults.

Dallas Destiny RV Resort

The Woodall’s campground rating system ranked Dallas Destiny RV resort as one of the top campgrounds in Texas in 2010. Attractions near the resort include the Grapevine Mills Mall, Lake Lewisville, Six Flags Over Texas, the Dallas Zoo and the Majestic Theater. The campground has 177 sites for RV and tent camping. It also rents out a fully furnished cabin. The campground has a sports field, a fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool, a Whirlpool, a rec room, a convenience store, planned activities for families and a nearby fishing lake.

Buckhorn Lake Resort

Woodall’s campground rating system also named the Buckhorn Lake Resort as one of the top resorts in Texas in 2010. The campground has 133 RV and tent sites. It also rents out cottages, that accommodate up to six people. The campground offers fishing on Buckhorn Lake. The barn at the facility features an entertainment venue, a banquet hall with seating for up to 300 people and a theater. Other amenities at the campground include a patio area, an exercise room, two pools, two hot tubs, daily breakfasts and movie nights. The campground sits directly on Buckhorn Lake, near the Kerryville Performing Arts Society, the Museum of Western Art, the National Museum of the Pacific War, the Riverside Nature Center and Kerrville-Schreiner Park.

Shallow Creek RV Park

The Trailer Life Directory ranked the Shallow Creek RV Park as one of the top campgrounds in Texas in 2010. Attractions near the campground include the East Texas Oil Museum, Lonestar Speedway, the Gladewater Saturday Night Opry and Gladewater’s antiquing district. The campground has 63 camping sites, which come with cable TV and wireless Internet access. The campground also features a public kitchen area, a clubhouse, an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, a horseshoe pit and nearby nature trails. Guests can fish at the RV park, as a stretch of Shallow Creek sits on its grounds.
