Portage Valley Cabins & RV Park, Girwood Alaska

This is a highly recommended side trip on your way to the Kenai Peninsula or a great way to end your Sunday drive down Turnagain Arm. Portage features easy nature paths and the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center on the shores of Portage Lake. Because the ice has receded 3 miles up and around the bend into the valley, boat tours of the berg-dotted lake and glacier are available 2 miles beyond the center on the lake's south shore. If you have the time, take the interpretive hike along Moose Flats. Ranger-guided nature hikes are pleasant, informative and frequent during the summer season. The valley also has two excellent campgrounds featuring 50 campsites.
